About Us

“We are striving to equip students that are traditionally underrepresented in Higher Education with practical skills to persist and succeed in their educational journey. We aim to do this successfully through the art of shared experience, mentorship, workshops, and annual conferences that not only facilitate space for students to navigate a preconditioned university experience, but also shape their university experience for themselves.”

Our Vision

Take underrepresented students on a journey from high school and beyond, empowering them to break barriers, advocate for change and acknowledge their potential to succeed.

Our Mission

Be a source of consistent support for students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds, driving towards advocacy and empowerment of these students with various experiences of the education system to help support and advance this target population.

Our History

Social Knowbility was created by our founder, Rufeida in the midst of the COVID pandemic in 2021. It was inspired by her own work as the First Generation Network Officer, a position she held for two consecutive years during her time as an undergraduate student at King's College London university.

Prior to joining the first generation network during the Student Union Spring Elections, she didn't fully understand the feelings of imposter syndrome, unbelonging, and general challenges she was experiencing at university. After building the FG network from the ground up, she realised the importance of being in spaces with people from similar experiences and the strengths of grassroots communities as a space for sharing resources, supporting each other, and being creating spaces for collective healing. So, she wanted to create something bigger and better outside the boundaries of KCL so that more students can get together to form a national network to support and empower each other. Since our formation, we have:

  • Built a coalition of 12 university networks and societies who support traditionally underrepresented students
  • connected with multiple organisations abroad, including EdMobilizer, a national group in the US made of First Gen students across the 8 IvyLeague colleges
  • been featured in the First Gen Lounge podcast where our founder discussed what being first gen is like, and embracing your intersectional identity (you can listen to is here: https://www.evehudsonphd.com/sessions/ )
  • recieved recognition from renown social mobility organisations like the Sutton Trust and Brilliant Club
  • continued to grow our reach and work on projects that matter
